The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the atoms-for-peace organization inside the United Nations system. The IAEA has activities that promote nuclear energy, nuclear safety, safeguards against nuclear weapons proliferation, technology transfer to developing countries, and applications of nuclear technology, including a subprogramme on Nuclear Fusion. The objective of the nuclear fusion activities is to enhance international collaboration in fusion research, to facilitate technical information exchange, and to help developing Member States strengthen their research and development programmes. The IAEA activities in this area are:

  10. Nuclear Fusion and Plasma Physics Data in the International Nuclear Information System (INIS) (http://www.iaea.org/inis/inisdb.htm).

The IAEA's activities in fusion research are advised by three groups:

  1. The International Fusion Research Council (IFRC)
  2. The Board of Editors of the journal Nuclear Fusion
  3. IFRC Subcommittee on Atomic & Molecular (A&M) Data for Fusion.

IFRC Subcommittee on Atomic & Molecular (A&M) Data for Fusion (2001):
The Subcommittee on Atomic and Molecular Data for Fusion is a subsidiary organ of the Agency's International Fusion Research Council (IFRC A&M Subcommittee) who has the mandate and responsibility to periodically review the activity of the IAEA A&M Data Unit and the international A&M Data Centre Network (DCN), to recommend policies and programme priorities for this Agency activity and to oversee their implementation.

The IFRC A&M Subcommittee also helps the IAEA A&M Data Unit and the A&M Data Centre Network to maintain strong links with the national and international fusion programmes and monitors the impact and relevance of the world-wide coordinated A&M data activity on the fusion programme development.

The IFRC A&M Subcommittee is a standing advisory body of the IAEA/IFRC and meets every second year.
