Research activities:
To establish safe handling techniques of a large amount of high concentration tritium and to develop the potential of hydrogen isotopes, the following research programmes have been carried out in 2000 along with various fundamental studies on the physico-chemical properties of hydrogen isotopes:

  1. Interactions between hydrogen isotopes and mixed plasma facing materials such as C-Be, C-Mo, C-W binary systems and so on. (Hatano, Matsuyama, Watanabe)
  2. R&D for the measurement of high tritium levels: in situ measurements of high tritium levels by the bremsstrahlung counting method. Improvement of the sensitivity of the bremsstrahlung counting method. (Matsuyama, Watanabe)
  3. Storage-supply-recovery of tritium by Zr-alloys: durability with respect to absorption-desorption cycles. (Watanabe, Matsuyama, Hara, Morozumi)
  4. Waste management for tritium contaminated materials (Watanabe, Matsuyama, Torikai)
  5. Dynamic behaviour of hydrogen isotopes in low activation materials (Hatano, Watanabe, Matsuyama).
