Geological Setting |
Lithology: Mineralisation is in pegmatite veins (albite-quartz-muscovite) in sericite schist in shear zone. Country rocks are paragneiss and amphibolite of the Willyama metamorphics. Tectonics: Metamorphic rocks are folded into a dome-like structure. Mineralisation occupies steeply dipping, subparallel shear zones cutting dragfolds on the overturned western limb of the dome. Alteration: albitisation Hostrock Age: Pegmatites: Mesoproterozoic
Age of Mineralization |
Mesoproterozoic, approx 1590Ma
Mineralization |
Ore Mineralogy: The main ore mineral was davidite, intergrown with hematite, ilmenite and rutile. Carnotite was present in the weathered mineralisation. Mineralization Description: U-REE mineralisation occurred in narrow, steeply dipping pegmatite veins in sericitic shear zones within high-grade quartzo-feldspathic gneiss and amphibolite. Ore Controls: structural (shear zone)
MetallogenicAspects |
Granitoid intrusions widespread. Granitoids (~1590Ma) are contemporaneous with high grade regional metamorphism and deformation and with Hiltaba suite granitoids and associated Olympic Dam mineralisation.
Age of Mineralization |
