Research activities:
Research in the Plasma Physics Laboratory involves experimental and theoretical studies of various processes in magnetized plasmas.

Some years ago, mainly the properties of linear and nonlinear waves in a plasma produced by ECR heating were investigated. Specifically, we investigated the properties of ion-acoustic waves in an anisotropic magnetized plasma in the vicinity of the ion cyclotron frequency, nonlinear changes of the ion acoustic phase velocity when the waves interact with high frequency oscillations in the plasma, nonlinear drift wave instability, etc.

The results of our investigations of the electrostatic anode-type double layer and the potential relaxation instability in a magnetized plasma were reported at several EPS conferences on controlled fusion.

A theoretical model for the interpretation of the Langmuir probe characteristics in strongly magnetized plasmas was also developed. Recently, theoretical, computer simulation and experimental studies of potential formation in plasmas with two-electron temperature population and in plasmas with negative ions were initiated.

We have developed several types of laboratory equipment: a microcomputerized system for plasma diagnostics with cylindrical Langmuir probes, one-sided plane probes, emissive probes, energy analyzers and different kinds of plasma sources, such as an ECR source, a hot cathode source and a RF source.
