Research activities:
The main effort is dedicated to liquid metal phenomena in blankets and to blanket related engineering problems. The structure of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence under conditions typical for blankets has been thoroughly investigated. Analysis of experimental spectra fractal properties etc., enabled the establishment of conditions under which strongly anisotropic very large scale turbulence strongly enhance heat and mass transfer properties. Utilization of the above results leads to advantageous engineering solutions for blankets. Materials compatible with liquid metals at elevated temperature have been also investigated.

Technical and economical studies are performed to establish performance characteristics of liquid metal MHD (LMMHD) energy conversion systems when matched to liquid metal blankets.
