Research activities:
SCK•CEN focuses its fusion programme on materials characterisation under radiation: structural materials, plasma facing components, materials for instrumentation, etc. It also studies safety aspects linked to material reactivity in accidental conditions and corrosion aspects. Issues related to decommissioning, waste storage and fusion socio-economic problems are also considered.

The BR2 materials testing reactor, and its related gamma testing facilities, together with post-irradiation hot-cells for mechanical, physical and microstructural examinations, are the major installations used for the programme.
