Research activities:
The plasma focus device developed in this laboratory is the UNU/ICTP PFF which is supplied with 15kV, 3.3kJ at 3 torr deuterium and capable of producing 108 fusion neutrons per discharge. Other research activities include fundamental plasma physics experiments such as the glow discharge, vacuum spark and the transient hollow cathode discharge. Various diagnostics techniques for the study of fusion plasma include current and voltage measurements, magnetic field measurements, laser diagnostics, time-resolved and time-integrated detection and imaging of plasmas (including streak camera and MCP in the visible as well as in the X-ray region), neutron diagnostics, etc., are also being developed and implemented in this laboratory.
Our research is funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment of Malaysia under the Intensified Research Priority Areas (IRPA) Programme.
