Research activities:
The principal aim of the research is to provide the physics database for the design of a neutron source based on the gas dynamic trap (GDT) as proposed by the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk. To this end, an integrated transport code system describing the target plasma, the injected fast ions as well as the neutral gas within the trap is being developed. Presently the work is directed at the code development for the GDT-Upgrade that is being constructed in Novosibirsk. This work is carried out in close cooperation with the Budker Institute and with the Institut für Neutronenphysik und Reaktortechnik (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe).
