R.B. Richardson is leader of Human Dosimetry of IEA Cooperative Program on Environmental, Safety and Economic Aspects of Fusion Power.
Research activities:
The research programs are focused on various aspects of tritium handling and safety, including tritium dosimetry, tritium in the environment, and tritium technology development. The Tritium Laboratory routinely handles 50 gram quantities of tritium per annum. Prototype heavy water detritiation facilities, handling high specific activity tritiated water, demonstrating new technologies have also been operated. The technologies of interest include atmosphere detritiation, metal getters for storage of tritium, water detritiation processes, tritium measurement/monitoring, detritiation of fusion plasma exhaust gases, liquid phase catalytic exchange catalysts, heavy water production, and irradiation testing.
