Research activities:
- Nuclear Physics for Nuclear Fusion
- Nuclear Reactions induced by Thermal Proton

Gas Discharge and Plasma Lab was one of the earliest fusion programs at Tsinghua University. After 1986, there was a conceptual designing activity for Fusion-Fission Hybrid Reactor as a joint program between Department of Physics and Department of Engineering Physics. After 1989, a new Fusion Physics Group was formed in the Department of Physics. It has been developed into a interdiscipline program with the members from Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering Physics. In 1999, a program for new device--called SUNIST--was established as a joint effort between Department of Engineering Physics at Tsinghua University and The Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Science. As a spin-off, the Industrial Plasma Engineering program has been developed at Tsinghua University as well in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Engineering Mechanics, and Department of Electronics.
