This is the third time that the proceedings of an IAEA Fusion Energy Conference are being published as an IAEA CD-ROM and on the Internet. LISA, our Lightweight Interactive Storage Application for the Collection of Conference Contributions Online, already used for the production of the FEC 2000 proceedings, was extended significantly in many aspects, e.g. for the submission of the extended synopses for consideration by the Programme Committee, and for producing the Book of Abstracts and the conference proceedings.
About 400 out of the 410 accepted papers were presented at the conference and nearly all of them were submitted electronically for inclusion in the electronic proceedings. The proceedings include a welcoming address, the Artsimovich Memorial Lecture, and 23 overview, 97 oral and 277 poster papers. The 97 oral papers include 5 summaries and 3 post-deadline papers, and the 277 poster papers include 32 rapporteured and 6 post-deadline papers. Thirteen accepted papers were not presented or not submitted and are therefore not included in the proceedings.
The contributions were not refereed; they are being issued as provided by the authors. Some text and figures of the papers may appear slightly fuzzy on the screen, but they do print correctly (please note that the papers were designed for A4 paper format; use Acrobat Reader's "Fit to Page" option, if available, when printing to other paper formats). A few papers may print rather slowly, and a very few papers create Acrobat Reader error messages but display and print almost perfectly.
The names in the author/co-author index list are given as typed into LISA by the author/submitter of the respective paper. Only a very small number of changes were made, when names were obviously misspelled, etc.
