Troubleshooting

Installing Acrobat Reader causes problems

You may find relevant troubleshooting information on the Adobe Web server.


PDF files are not displayed when I click on a paper in my web browser

You may need to tell your web browser where to find Acrobat Reader or any other PDF viewer. Set the path and name of the PDF viewer, e. g. in Netscape Navigator under `Edit -> Preferences -> Navigator -> Applications'.


After viewing several pages Acrobat Reader slows down on a Windows system

Acrobat Reader may have opened a new window for each new document; the windows are hidden behind the current window. Set Acrobat Reader not to open a new window in `Files -> Preferences -> General'.


Acrobat Reader crashes on some PDF files or does not display them correctly

If you experience problems with Acrobat Reader, check that you have the latest version (currently 4.05). You may also try to use alternative PDF viewers such as Ghostscript-based viewers (available for several operating systems) or xpdf (for UNIX platforms).


Ghostscript, Ghostview or gv do not display the PDF file correctly

Your Ghostscript interpreter should be up-to-date, preferably version 6.x. You can check your Ghostscript version by typing gs -v on the command line (UNIX). Ghostscript can be downloaded from http://www.ghostscript.com.
