P-18 · Stabilization of a thermally induced fluctuation in the relative phase difference of the stimulated Brillouin scattering waves by an active control of the feedback mirror position J.S. Shin, J.W. Yoon, H.J. Kong Abstract: For a high power/energy laser system, it is very hard to get a high repetition rate, because of cooling problems. Our beam combination laser system using the stimulated Brillouin scattering phase conjugate mirrors(SBSPCMs), proposed by H. J. Kong, is one of the promising techniques to solve the cooling problems. Yet, in order for our beam combination laser to work, the stabilization of the relative phase difference between two SBS waves should be obtained. Recently, in the previous works, the phase stabilization was successfully obtained for several hundred shots using the self-generated density modulation. However, there still exist the rapid fluctuation and the long-term variation in the phase difference of two SBS waves. To eliminate these, air blocking pipes were placed for each beam line, and a PZT mirror shifter was attached to one of the concave mirrors. As a result, a stabilized output energy and phase difference was obtained. Hence, using this phase stabilization method, the high power/energy beam combination laser system with a high repetition rate will be soon realized.
