Abstract: For fast ion studies in confined plasmas, the scintillator probe has been designed and was installed into the Large Helical Device (LHD). A periscope with eyepiece, relay, and objective lenses is coupled with optical fiber bundle to transmit the scintillator light to an image intensified charge coupled device camera and 3x3 photomultiplier arrays. Using the scintillator probe, we show the experimental results of the fast ion loss profile at the edge plasma of LHD and the fluctuation signals of fast ion loss in the plasma detachment experiment. In these experiments, the scintillator rises in temperature of around 190 ºC.
