ANNOUNCEMENT

On the occasion of the 51 st regular session of the IAEA General Conference, to be held from 17 to 21 September 2007 in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will hold its tenth Scientific Forum. The purpose of the Forum, established in 1998, is to stimulate discussion on scientific and other issues relating to the IAEA’s activities, which are of interest to Member States.

This year’s Forum, which will take place on 18 and 19 September, will focus on the theme of Global Challenges and the Development of Atomic Energy: The Next 25 Years, as this year coincides with the 50 th anniversary of the IAEA.

There will be four sessions on the following topics:

  • Nuclear Power ;
  • Meeting New Challenges in Food, Agriculture and Health ;
  • Global Safety and Security Regime: Building Robust Safety and Security Infrastructures ;
  • Safeguards and Nuclear Verification: A Long Term View .

The Forum will be held in the Austria Center, in the margins of the formal proceedings of the General Conference. A major goal of this Forum will be to provide an opportunity for representatives of Member States and the international community to share their thinking and experience on these important issues. Several experts will make presentations in the four sessions. The presentations made in each session will be followed by a moderated panel discussion involving the audience and the speakers.
