Target Organizations:
This training course is designed primarily for professional staff of nuclear safety regulatory bodies in countries planning to embark on a nuclear power programme (new entrants). It will also be of interest to individuals involved in the planning of the nuclear safety infrastructure and to professional staff of technical support organizations (TSOs) and nuclear utilities.
The training course is open to 40 participants.
Purpose of the Course:
The training course addresses issues that are important for the safety and regulation of nuclear power plants (both new plants and operating plants) and, specifically, for establishing a nuclear safety infrastructure for a new nuclear programme in a country embarking on nuclear power. The course has been designed to take into account the specific early needs of new entrants through sharing of the experience of STUK and other international organizations.
Nature of the Course:
The training course consists of lectures, working groups and discussions.
The course has a practical orientation based on actual experiences concerning the topics covered. The lecturers are the staff members of STUK and its TSO, international experts and staff of the IAEA.
Financial Aspects:
The cost of the course is 1200 EUR + VAT (22 %),
covering training, training materials, visits, lunch and coffee.
As a general rule, the IAEA does not pay the cost of attendance of participants (i.e. travel and living expenses). However, limited funds are available to help meet the cost of the attendance of selected specialists, mainly from developing countries with limited economic resources. Generally, not more than one grant will be awarded to any one country. No registration fee is charged to IAEA grantees.
Governments wishing to apply for a grant on behalf of one of their specialists, should address specific requests to the IAEA to this effect.
Governments should ensure that applications for grants:
(a) Are submitted by 31 May 2010;
(b) Are accompanied by a duly completed and signed Grant Application Form.
Applications that do not comply with the conditions stated under (a) and (b) cannot be considered.
The grants awarded will be in the form of lump sums and usually cover only part of the cost of attendance.
