This report provides specific guidance for conducting accident analyses of nuclear power plants with modular high temperature gas cooled reactors (HTGRs). It contains details of initiating events and an overview of the safety aspects of events that could lead to fuel failure and potential activity release. Licensing type safety analyses, aimed at demonstrating sufficient safety margins, are also addressed, and suggestions are made on analysing various events related to the inherent safety features of HTGRs. The report is intended to supplement the IAEA Safety Standards Series publications.
