This publication was developed as part of the IAEA’s efforts to contribute to the transfer of technology and knowledge in the use of stable isotope techniques as research tools in nutrition among nutritionists, analytical chemists and other professionals. It provides information on the theoretical background as well as the practical application of state of the art methodologies to monitor changes in body composition and total energy expenditure, and reflects recent advances in analytical techniques.
