The IAEA's Statute authorizes it to provide for the application of its standards at the request of any Member State. The IAEA discharges this statutory function through a number of mechanisms, including rendering independent peer review appraisal services to determine the status of compliance with its standards. The appraisal for Japan in December 2005 of the safety of the transport of radioactive material is the seventh TranSAS mission since the inception of the service. This report presents its findings.
