Theory of Plasma Instabilities:
Transport, Stability Issues and their Interaction

Proceedings of a Technical Meeting
Trieste, 2–4 March 2005
TM-27026

The 2nd International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Technical Meeting on "Theory of Plasmas Instabilities: Transport, Stability Issues and Their Interaction" was held in Trieste, Italy, from 2 to 4 March 2005. The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics hosted the meeting at the Adriatico Guest House. The IAEA wishes to express its gratitude to the host.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Artur Malaquias (IAEA) and Mr. Brian Stewart (ICTP).

Forty-nine delegates representing twenty-one countries attended the meeting. The Programme Committee accepted a total of 51 contributions for presentation at the conference.

The papers were grouped with respect to the following topics: Improved Confinement, Turbulence and Nonlinear Instabilities, Energetic Particle Physics, and Interaction of Macroscopic Instabilities and Transport Process. These papers were presented in 6 Overview and 22 Invited oral presentations and in 23 Poster displays. A summary session with three presentations was also included in the programme.

A set of selected contributions from the Overview and Invited categories were submitted to “Physics of Plasmas” to appear under the Special Topics: 1. “Physics of improved confinement, turbulence and nonlinear instabilities” and 2. “Energetic particle physics, interaction of macroscopic instabilities and transport process”.

These proceedings contain manuscripts of the Invited contributions that were not submitted to “Physics of Plasmas” and the manuscripts of Poster contributions.

The chairman of the programme committee was Mr. T. Hahm, the chairman of the local organizing committee was Mr. B. Stewart. The scientific secretary of the meeting and staff member responsible for this publication was A. Malaquias, Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences.
