Research activities:
Experiments on plasma microinstabilities are carried out in a Q machine and in a large space-simulation chamber. The focus of this research is the linear and non-linear behaviour of plasma waves and instabilities. Ongoing experiments concentrate on the role of inhomogeneities and anisotropies in plasma stability. The plasma for the space chamber is generated with a steady-state helicon plasma source that is also used for investigaions of helicon source physics and plasma chemistry control.
