Research activities:
Research activities in controlled fusion at the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics are centred on theoretical studies of various physical problems related to inertial confinement fusion (ICF) including:

  1. Physics of ICF target compression and heating (ablation, equation of state effects, hydrodynamic cumulation and instabilities including RTI and RMI)
  2. Burn and hydrodynamics of ICF targets (burn of DT and ''exotic'' fuels, kinetics of high-energy reaction products)
  3. Optical and transport properties of high-density, high-temperature plasmas (anomalous absorption, heat conduction in collisional plasmas)
  4. Plasma turbulence and wave collapses (Langmuir collapse, fast electron generation)
The above theoretical studies are correlated in many cases with experimental researches carried out in Kurchatov Institute for Atomic Energy (Moscow) and Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University (Osaka, Japan).
