Research activities:
Fusion related research at the University of Tromsø is centred on the toroidal plasma machine Blaamann, with major radius 65cm and aspect ratio 4.85.

Plasma generation is by filament emission or by microwaves (2.45GHz).

The toroidal magnetic field of up to 0.4T is steady-state and very constant (dB/B < 0.002 over much of the volume).

Studies of plasma confinement, fluctuations and turbulence, and anomalous transport are combined with theory and global numerical fluid simulations.

Development of novel probe diagnostics for measurement of fluctuating fluid observables and anomalous fluxes are central to the activity, and so are also advanced signal processing and data analysis techniques.
