The tokamak was transfered from the CRPP - Centre de Recherche en Physique des Plasmas - École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne - Suisse, reconstructed and renamed TCABR. It was commissioned in October of 1999.

Lines of research:
Alfvén Wave Heating and Current Drive, Confinement Improvement, Disruptions and Turbulence, Secondary Generation Mechanism in Runaway Discharges.
