Research activities:
Chromium-based alloys promise high-temperature strength up to 1,200 K with low activation properties, which is an attractive quality for application in fusion reactor components. Plansee AG, Reutte, Tirol, has provided material samples required by three contributing partners (Erich Schmid Institut of OEAW, Austria, SCK.CEN, Belgium and NRG, Netherlands). The investigated materials - pure chromium (Ducropur) and a dispersion-strengthened chromium alloy (Ducrolloy) are commercially available and have been produced via the powder-metallurgical route.

In order to collect data to characterize the mechanical behaviour of Ducropur and Ducrolloy between room temperature and 1,000oC, high-temperature fracture toughness investigations, bending tests and tension tests are being performed. All activities since 15 Nov. 1996 have been performed within the Association EURATOM-OEAW.
