Research activities:
Theoretical and experimental studies on the cylindrical Z-pinch. The device NOVA (2 kJ, 8 kV, 250 kA) is in operation since 1986. Presently it is operated in the hollow gas-puff mode. Experimental studies of the plasma sheath dynamics and of the radiation emitted from the pinch are performed. MHD analytical models and computational simulations are being developed and confronted with experimental results.
Experimental results in a staged Z-pinch configuration in NOVA driver, where a plasma sheet imploded on a metallic gas produced by an exploding wire. The high compression and X-ray emission are detected.
